Too much aijinomoto?

Michelle got her hair cut at Storm, Jurong Point. It was the shortest hairstyle she's ever had, I guess. Nevertheless I liked it. Seems like her parents & younger sister isn't too used to seeing their daughter have shorter hair than her boyfriend, but I do not mind. In fact, I find her as attractive as before, if not more.

It is definitely not because she ate too much MSG (mono sodium glutamate) until her hair start to fall off. I wonder who came up with that notion that your hair will fall out if you eat too much of the seasoning. Must be those people who are too health conscious for their own good.

Anyway since we're on the subject, how about we find out more about this flood flavouring?

What is MSG?

MSG is a flavour enhancer which has been used effectively for nearly a century to brin gout the best flavour of foods. Its principal component is an amino acid called glutamic acid or glutamate. Glumate is found naturally in protein-containing foods such as meat, vegetables, poultry & milk. The human body also produces glutamate naturally in large amounts. The muscles, braan & other body organs contain about four pounts of glutamate, & human milk is rich in glutamate, compared to cow's milk, for example.

Glutamate is found in two forms: "bound" glutamate (linked to other amino acids forming a protein molecule) & "free" glutamate (not linked to protein). Only free is effective in enhancing the flavour of food. Foods often used for their flavouring quaalities, such as tomatoes & mushrooms, have high levels of naturally occuring free glutamate.
