Marie France Bodyline (Thailand) commercial

Dear fellow struggling students of CEE & the rest of the student population, now it is Week 12 & the heat is really getting to my sanity. Our Assistant Chair (Prof Lim Siow Yong) has sent us some lame jokes to take our minds off revision when we have our breaks. I will post funny videos for you to watch too.

It is just exams, nothing worth going crazy. Ace them & hope to meet you in the working world as fellow professionals, businessmen, etc.

Anyway this video rather biased against those with plus size figures. Nevertheless, one of the greatest gift a person can have is the ability to laugh at yourselves.

Ja neh!!!

Have you seen it? 01

One fine day, I decided that I should save money & stay healthy by bringing out my own drinking water, so I went to look for my favourite water bottle. Alas!!! It is missing!!! Called meowie24 to ask if she took it, she said no. Searched all over my house but could not find it. My mother says she did not take it either.

Where could it have gone to??? Even my Fila water bottle is missing!!!

&%%$#@@@!!%@$$$

Peeps, if you see this on sale, please let me know (I only want the transparent clear version of it)!!!

Ja neh!!!

Update

Thanx to Yuri, I have finally got my hands on this elusive waterbottle what is no longerin production (at least for the black & transparent version). Now I not only have 1 of it, I have 2!!! The other version is red & black.

I feel so lucky, utterly satisfied now.

NTU lecturer & his feedback forms

I guess some of you have heard about this video as it is making its rounds among the student population. Mischa sent me one of the sites on which this video was hosted so I went YouTube to search for it. As some of you might already know, the feedback forms make their appearance at the end of every lecturer's part & I am guessing whether they are promoted or getting a pay raise is never dependent on what is written on these forms that cost SGD$0.22 each. Well, they are printed on thick, good quality paper, but that is all they are worth. Usually a lecturer will teach for one half of the semester, either before the recess or after.

No matter how badly a lecturer teaches, he never gets cautioned or sacked, so in my opinion it is just a formality. Something to show the auditors to get ISO certification or something like that. I have seen my fair share of horrible + terrible lecturers, whom nobody can understand their accents, or what they are trying to teach us. Some are just plain lazy & smoking his way through. Sometimes it is really not their fault but trust me, there are those who are doing more harm than good to the undergraduate population.

Anyway, enjoy this video & work hard for the exams. I believe he is a EEE (Electrical & Electronic Engineering) lecturer. AT least some of them seem genuine in their desire to teach in a manner that captures a student's attention rather than make headlines for all the wrong reasons.

By the way, I feel NTU are paying their lecturers too much. I definitely cannot afford to keep a mistress even if I want to, or if a girl / woman / sweet young thing wants to be my Number Two because the bar has been raised so high. You know who I am talking about. Yes, it is you. My personal opinion. First, I need to find Numero Uno. Are you out there or have I already found you?

Lastly, if all of my lecturers are just half as entertaining, I would have been on the Dean's List for 4 consecutive years & graduated with First Class Honours. I know I am not that stewpig, just unbelieveably lazy. :(

Newest cybercafe in Tampines

There is a new kid on the block (or rather under my block of flats) in the already-declining cybercafe market. There used to be cybercafes in many areas which offer internet access & LAN gaming terminals but the trend has since died down. I remember the one & only time I set foot into a cybercafe. It was in the Katong area (can't remember which shopping centre but it was pretty old & run-down) & we only had to pay around 10- 20sgd for overnight, unlimited Lan gaming. The only computer game I really every played was Starcraft. And 10 hours of Starcraft was just over my limit.

Anyway, enough of digression. Back to the crux of post. I stay on the 3rd storey & using a wireless router. The range is pretty decent & the 24 hours coffeeshop downstairs shows live EPL matches on their television, so here I am, having a beer & watching 20 sweaty & often hunky men try to kick a ball into the opposition's net. How cheap can I get? Heez. Oh yah, this "cybercafe" serves all types of drinks such as kopi-c & teh-o & beer @ cheap prices. There are even "waiters" to bring your your drinks or food, such as bak chor mee & "zhu chao".

Was thinking of going Siglap for some drinks & soccer but nobody asked me out. Sob sob. Nobody loves me, everybody hates me, I want to eat some worms. So it is just me, Yuri & my Powerbook tonight. And a group of our Indian brothers having beer, not toddy, singing merrily because it is Deepavali, Festival of lights. Earlier on, a middle-aged & obviously drunk Chinese brother tried to grab their bottle & hit another middle-aged chinese brother becuase of some unknown dispute. Before he could do any damage to himself & others, he lost balance & slump to the ground. He is now sitting at the table behind me, sleeping. At least I have some decent company with me, so I am not really that alone.

Chelsea 2 - 0 up & had another goal disallowed for offside. Damn!!! More pressure on Man Utd to maintain their pole position & their next match will not be easy. The derby of the season, Man Utd vs Liverpool. This match always stirs up strong emotions amongst their respective supporters, one that enjoys a rich history. Man Utd needs all 3 points to stay on top, Liverpool needs 3 points to issue a legitimate challenge on the Title. If you asked me, a draw would be the most amicable solution to this fiercely contended match.

Still comtempleting whether I should post a R-rated picture of a woman with big knockers & a can of Heineken between her love cushions. Hmmm. How about a poll? In the meantime, I will post something suitable for the general public.

Lego (City series / Model number 7900)

This is the first time I have been to the Lego official website because when I was still playing with Lego, the internet was not as commonplace as it is today. We now have free internet access in specific areas with high human traffic & all you need now is your own laptop or a PDA or a mobile phone with webpage viewing capabilities.

I have not bought any Lego sets myself because I was just a kid with little or no pocket money. Now that I have some savings of my own, I decided to revive the child in me (not that it was dormant most of the time) & bought one of the newer models, the City Series.

How times have changed. Now the plastic bags that hold the Lego blocks are numbered & in sequence. So you start with the stuff that is in Bag One & move onto Baf Two 7 so on & so forth. Amazing!!! If only everything that requires assembly is so sequential & logical in this world. Just 4 big bags for the very long vehicle. Heez.

Meet the driver of the trailer. I have not given him a name yet but he is very conscious about safety & safe driving habits. Would you like to hire him? He carries a nice red fire extinguisher everywhere he goes, as shown in the picture.

Unnamed trailer driver in the cab. That is what it is supposed to be called right? Look how confident he is behind the wheel.

The finished product. Yuri & I finished it in one night & the cost of the Lego set is around 30sgd. So I assume that the difficulty of assembly & number of parts is directly proportional to the selling price. My next purchase would be a Ferrari F430 Spider.

Afternoon drive from NTU to 907 kopi tiam

Hey guys, here's my very first video that I have posted on YouTube. It is the journey to the coffeeshop. Not as exciting & dangerous as compared to the Journey to the West, & we are in the western part of Singapore liao!!!

Video got cut off halfway because of the stewpig Samsung UltraSlim 12.9 mobile phone. While it captures decent videos, it cannot record directly to the external memory card & the internal memory runs out pretty quickly when taking videos at the highest resolution.

Enjoy!!!

Pollutant Standards Index

The haze over Singapore has been the hot topic on our lips ever since it was brought about by monsoon winds blowing in our direction from Indonesia. It has reduced visibility, increase out health problems & brought general inconveniences to our small country. What is the point of restricting smoking when even all of the smokers smoking all at the same time will not bring about an effect 1/10 the scale of the haze?

Anyway anti-smoking laws sentiments aside, the haze is caused by Indonesian land owners who want to clear their land for the planting of new crops. They employ a primitive to clear & enrich the land, called slash & burn method. Basically they slash the vegetation, put them into a pile & set fire to them. The fire will burn everything & anything in it's path & reduce them to ash, which ironically fertilizes the land. If done in a controlled manner, it is a cheap & somewhat effective method to prepare the land for the next cycle of crops as these farmers are mostly uneducated about the advances in modern farming. Anyone who can dispute this, I gladly welcome clarifications & debates over this matter. If not, it is their fault & they should be punished many times over in proportion to their thoughtlessness & selfishness.

The number that we Singaporeans monitor more closely than the weekly 4D in recent times is the PSI index. It can be monitored online throught the website maintained by the National Environment Agency (NEA). As you can see, the PSI is made up of measurements of 5 different air pollutants, namely Sulphur Dioxide, Nitrogen Dioxide, Carbon Monoxide, Ozone & PM10 (Particulate Matter less than 10 microns in mean diameter). The PSI will be listed as the highest "score" of these 5 pollutants. If the highest score of 82 comes from Carbon Monoxide, then the PSI for that particular time period will be 82, with the main pollutant being Carbon Monoxide. If the highest score comes from PM10, then the main pollutant will be PM10 which is the case for this season's haze. PM10 to the man in the street would be very fine dust, which can cause all sorts of respiratory problems.

While the haze looks like it is extending it's unwelcomed stay, we can only hope that the Indonesian Government is capable of doing something to stop this from being an annual event. While I believe the majority of any country's citizens are peaceful & law-abiding people, those recalcitrants should be made to bear the full extent of the law, if there is any.

The personal comments found in this post are mine & mine alone. If you do not agree, I welcome ur constructive & factual debate. If you are thinking of litigation, I'll see you in court & put your horse come over.

Gasp gasp...

Samsung D900 (Ultra Slim Edition 12.9)

Samsung's official press release

This mobile phone is really slim, & has a nice feel to it, however it's size might turn out to be it's own weakness. I personally find it amazing Samsung has managed to fit so many functions into such a small chassis, but in my pudgy hands, it does feel a little too fragile for me to use it without feeling self-conscious & without the nagging feeling I might break it if I apply too much pressure. This feeling is most evident when I SMS with it.

There is no radio!!! &^%$#@%%

The file management system is simply comfusing. How should I put it? A modern mobile phone will have both internal memory in the form of flash memory built into it somewhere, & also expandable memory in the form of memory cards such as Menory Stick Pro Duo or Micro SD cards. For the case of my SE K750i, all the pictures are stored in 1 folder, with a lttle icon at the side to tell me whether it is in the internal memory (aka "phone") or expandable memory (aka "card"). In the Samsung, there is a seperate option in the menu called "memory stick" & this is where the confusion begins. Assume I have 10 of each (pictures, videos & songs). If I enter the "memory stick" option from the pictures directory, I might not see that I have 10 videos & 10 songs. It could be seen if I enter the "memory stick" option from videos instead. It is so confusing, I do not know what I am trying to say. You need to see this for yourself.

There is no way I can save the pictures or videos I have taken directly into the memory stick. It has to go into the internal memory first. Hence I am severely limited by the relatively small (compared to a 1gb micro SD card) internal memory. I need to manaually move content to the memory stick to make way for new material coming in. This is both fatal & fundamentally insane.

It takes forever to transfer files from the "phone" to "card"!!! My great-great-great-great grandmother can write faster than it, with her hands tied behind her back.

Picture quality is decent although when I take photos, this mobile phone does not give me the same level of confidence in my phone's camera to make the pictures turn out right. Despite the reasonably good quality, it still pales in conparison to the SE K800i. Your should see the K800i in action in poor light conditions. Absolutely smashing!!!

Video quality on the other hand, & on the highest setting, if one of the best I have seen so far in a mobile phone. It is on par with the Nokia N73 in this aspect & this coudl be the saving grace of Samsung's UltraSLim 12.9, only to be let down b their own inflexibility of not allowing us to by-pass the internal memory.

While you can set mp3s to be your ring tone, caller ring tone (so that when your Significant Other calls, you will know it him / her) or alarm tone, you cannot set it to be your sms tone, which can be done in my K750i. %$#@@**!%%^

Nevertheless, I have enjoyed using it & will give it 7 stars out of 10 for its overal performance & package (personal rating hor!!!).

Mini Ben & Jerry's tub

Mini fix on the go, for those who need to satisfy their sweet tooth or ice cream craving. It comes at a premium. Only for those with expensive taste. I have seen these at petrol stations' convenience stores as well as 7-11 so far. SGD$3.50 for a mini tub, while the pint size (I think) costs SGD$11.50 at the Shell petrol station opposite my home & SGD$12.50 at the Ben & Jerry's scoop shop in SUntec City opposite Carrefour (car-ful, hahaha).

What civil engineers study in NTU

Happy Birthday Wenhui!!!

My pretty sister is XX years old today. Heez, a female's age is always secret, for whatever reason, I will never understand. What is the big deal about knowing a person's true age? Anyway. no idea where this cake came from, but I suspect it is Swensen's ice cream cake.

Cross section of the cake. There is ice cream in between layers of cake. Muahahaha.

The eternal conflict between Macs & PCs

Well, it has been over a year since I bought a PowerBook & I have not looked back since. While there has been talk about how complicated Macs are & how some things do not work on a Mac, the decision was a fruitful one. Well, to some extent, there are really some programs that are exclusive to the Windows platform, but for 99% of the time, there is a Mac equivalent. Once you have found that equivalent, you will most probably wonder how come you did not make the switch sooner.

I have both Windows XP (my desktop) & OS X (my notebook) experience so I can safely say I can experience the best of both worlds. For most of us mere mortals where we use the computer to surf the internet, watch movies, word processing, powerpoint presentations, Macs will do a better job than Windows. So far, I managed to convince one person to buy a Mac, after assuring her that it is a wise choice to make & that I will be there every step of the way of her transition. It was by chance by the way, not intentional.

Some things just look better on a Mac. Some things just are easier done on a Mac. Macs are almost always way cooler than a PC.

Enough said.

Anyone wants to give OS X a try?

The war has begun!!!

Fellow students of NTU as well as (insert name of school you are studying in), every semester we will receive this email in out mailbox, informing us of the commencement of the welfare package for the revision period. This only means one thing to me, the exams are dawning upon us like a plague & it is time to prepare to fight the war.

I hope this will be the last semester for those late bloomers, i.e. 4.5 years & above, as well as a rewarding semester for those still on track to graduate on time.

Please ask me out to study!!! I cannot do it on my own!!!

Gummi bears theme song

While still on the topic of cartoon, bears & theme songs, here is one of my favourites. Tell you a little secret. Sometimes I sing this out loud when I am alone, or when I think I am alone.

Gasp!!!

Boing boing!!!

Gummy Berry Juice (Wonder if the fruit juice stall in Canteen A sells this?)

Care Bears theme song

There is a child inside everyone one of us. Do not suppress it, but rather, celebrate the fact that sometimes the simple things does it for us. Not the most expensive toys or the fattest bank accounts.

Brought the smile back to my grouchy face when I heard it this evening. I wish I could turn back the hands of time.

Enjoy!!!

Cheers

My aerobics class video

The pounds are showing around the mid-section & it is time to get my body into fat-shedding mode. So I signed up for some aerobics classes at the gym. I told the registration lady that this was my first serious attempt to get a more toned body because there is a girlI want to impress but my figure isn't flattering & it does not cut it for her, so I want to take the first step, even though i was feeling very apprehensive & was goin gto be a nervous wreck.

The nice lady behind the desk said to me in her most assuring voice that I would definitely be in very good & experienced hands. They have seen it all & know just how to push all the right buttons, at the right time.

Hmmm...

So I went for my lessons religiously & I want to share with you what a mind-blowing experience I had & how it has made such a huge impact on my life, not to mention my new body. Here is a video I made of my class. I am standing in the middle.

I wonder how come I am always the only male in the class..

Siloso beach @ Sentosa

It was not a good day to be going sun-tanning / lazing on the beach as the sky was overcast & the winds were bringing the haze to the usually-sunny island of Sentosa (So Expensive Nothing To See Also).

Even by noon, there was no sight of the sun & there were intermittent showers. Suddenly the heaves decided to let loose & a heavy shower followed. We were not caught in the rain & went to seek shelter at one of the multi-purpose pavilions.

Sigh. Will not be going there often to "maintain my tan" since the examinations are approaching. Since I cannot be a handsome, tallk & dark Prince Charming, I can only become darker in order to appear slimmer. Muahahahaha!!!

Anyone wants to join me for a weekend at the beach?

Lau Hock Guan Kee Bak Kut Teh @ Joo Chiat Road

I am going to spend more of my time updating backdated posts that only have pictures but no words. This entry could be considered a blast from the past, if I knew exactly what that phrase meant. Anyway, when I was just a wee lad, or young child, or when my parents still called me "boy boy" (this is such an embarrassment, hahaha), we used to frequent this bak kut teh joint somewhere near Joo Chiat.

Coming back to this place again brings back those memories & feels as if I am transported back through time, only now I am a little older & a lot bigger. Sigh. Hahaha. The lady boss does not have any recollection of us but turns out that her husband, who is in charge of the kitchen remembers us!!! Prices are on the steep side to me, considering the ambience & location of the shop. Oh, I forgot to mentiont that the fish head curry is quite decent. Look at the spread we orders. A lot of food for 5 persons. Will go back again some day, not because the food is cheap or it has the best bak kut teh, but because I treasure those little trips back into my childhood.

Originally wanted to scan the receipt & post it online, but somehow, can't seem to find the time to do it. Procrastinator wins this round.

Olio @ Suntec City

Soup of the day is cream of mushroom. It doesn not look like any mushroom soup I have seen but the taste is exquisite. The accompanying piece of garlic bread leaves much to be desired though. Nevertheless, a decent score must be awarded for presentation. This is the bare minimum for a place of this price range.

Pasta with dead crayfish. I think that is called a crayfish right? To me, they are all fish with shells. Or shellfish.

My dish. Forget the actual name but it was spicy & had sausages in it. I guess the bill came up to around SGD$60 for 2 person, which is a luxury to me & should not be treated as the norm.

First time there, I guess it will be a period of time before I go there to have dinner again. Nothing really wrong with that place, just that it does not have a certain appeal to get me hooked on it.

My Lovely Samsoon wedding costume pig

This stuffed pig is all the rage, thanks to the popular Korean drama called "My Name is Kim Sam Soon".

The original version of the toy featured in the drama is identical to the couple shown in the picture, except it is plain & does not wear a costume.

Penguin water dispenser opening ceremony

Another product from Action City. A chain of shops that sells toys & other figurines, some of which are collectibles. Personal I find these shops are jack of all trades but master of none. They do carry a wide range of toys & other stuff like soft toys & display items, but if I were to want to get something that might be worthwhile to collect, I would go to a shop that specialize in toys (collectibles). If you need recommendations, you can ask me. No, Simply Toys is not one of them. The Suntec outlet has lots of Stars Wars stuff but I am an outsider when it comes to Star Wars. Better to consult an expert.

I used to go to Simple Toys to get my Be@rbricks but it has been eons since I stopped collecting them. I hope Meowie24 takes good care of them & treasure them as much as I do, or I would have no choice but to hunt you down.

Recommended toy store would be Earth X.

This is what a typical be@rbrick looks like. They usually come three sizes, 50%, 100% & 400%.

My "cute adorable kawaii" sister pouring herself the first drink.

It can hold the equivalent of 8 glasses (no idea how big the glasses are) or around 1.5 litres of fluid. I intent to get another one & fill it up with ice cold beer.

Drink up!!!

Ugly people in Kallang Mac 03

Male Assistant on the left, Middle Aged woman on the right. Together they are the ugly people in Kallang Mac that I have previously mentioned.

Am I scared of being accused of intruding their privacy of taking their picture without their prior knowledge? No. Am I sscared of being accused of slander & undermining their character? No.

These people are the very reason why Singapore will almost never be a gracious society. At least until people learn to be more sensitive to other people's feelings & using their brains to think before doing anything.

I wonder how come they are there so often. Maybe I have not noticed that before the unfortunate incident.

For the uninitiated.

Little Dot II+ Amplifier Tube

No idea what to talk about in this post. I am an absolute outside when it comes to amplifiers & speakers & anything in between, behind them, on top of them, around them or next to them.

Just enjoy the nice pictures & maybe someone can enlighten me on this mysterious area.

Chicken cordon bleu @ Secret Recipe (Siglap)

Friends & I wanted to go for supper & we decided on Secret Recipe as it was known for its cheesecakes. I am not really a fan, & decided to oder this to share with Yuri. Sounds yummy as I scanned through the menu but the actual dish leaves more to be desired.

Maybe I am a fussy eater but even Yuri who is a cheese-eater finds the cheese a tad overwhelming & does not compliment the chicken well. This is what it looks like before cutting it apart.

The cross sectional profile of the dish. Cheese was oozing out everywhere!!! Not good for me. I'm not a cheese-eater, let alone a cheese-lover. I hereby banish this dish from my list of edible food. Hahaha.
